Samsung becomes OLED panel supplier to Apple for 2 years, says new report

Everything​ seems to be heading for a beautiful iPhone 8 launch in late 2017. We all know that 2017 is going to be the 10th anniversary year for iPhone. And Apple is preparing something big to make this even better.

Yesterday we reported about some delay in the launch of iPhone 8 and it was pushed back to October – November​ timeframe. We have already seen many leaks and rumours about the upcoming iPhone 8. It was recently reported that Apple foresees huge demand for 70m OLED display panels. Some renders​ both Grey and Gold colour iPhone 8 were also leaked.

Now we have another leaked information that takes us one step closer to what was previously leaked. The latest leak comes from Digitimes which is a trusted source of information when it comes to Apple. As per the latest information, Apple has signed up a contract of Korean Won 10 trillion with Samsung for supply of curved OLED display panels. The curved OLED panels being asked by Apple are to be used in iPhone 8.

For this much price, Samsung is expected to supply s total of approximately 70-92 million of curved OLED panels to Apple in the year 2017. So this means that 30% of the iPhones sold in 2017 will be with curved OLED panels.

It is also said that Samsung’s​ display division is converting it’s LCD panel factory to OLED panel factory situated in Asia. So this could provide a boost to the production of such a huge OLED display panels.
