Apple iPhone 7 vs Samsung Galaxy S7 : Clash of the upcoming titans

GS7-Dimensions

What do we call when two wildest animals are fighting? just a fight? NO we will call it Clash of the Titans.

Yes you heard it right. This is a clash of upcoming titans from two rivals. When we talk about rivals in the world of tech, it simply means Samsung & Apple. Both of these fighting with each other on some or another dispute. Each year both the companies offer different products to compete with each other. Last year we had Samsung Galaxy S6 from Samsung & Apple iPhone 6s from Apple. These two companies were fighting in terms of mobile phones.

Now let’s talk about their upcoming offerings, the Samsung Galaxy S7 & Apple iPhone 7. Samsung is expected to release it’s flagship sometimes in summers or little later while Apple always releases in fall. Both the companies will be preparing the best they can in terms of hardware , software, camera and user experience as well. We don’t want our readers to waste their time. So let’s just start the actual fight(To be very clear, neither of the smartphones have been released yet. SO it’s totally based upon what we know so far.)

Naming :

What will be the name of upcoming phones from both the companies? If we take a look at the earlier models from the companies it is very clear that Apple will be naming it’s device the iPhone 7 while Samsung will be naming it the Galaxy S7. This naming strategy is quite clear & both the companies will stick to this.

Design :

Design is the term where users started focusing more after year 2014. Earlier then that, design was not the main focus, it was hardware. But Apple always had the crown of best design since the ages of iPhone 4 when they released a full glass-metal body in a phone & that looked very premium at that time.

When we talk about design , Samsung had a very bad history in terms of design. They had all the phones looking similar from front as well back side of the device. But this trend was changed in 2015 with Samsung introduced the Galaxy S6 series with all metal-glass unibody design. It was even called the design king of year 2015.

So 2016 could be a great year in terms of design. It is very likely that both the companies will again follow the unibody design philosophy with high grade metals like Aluminium. After every 2 years, Apple brings major design change to their smartphone. SO 2016 will be a year when we will see totally new phones from Apple

2007 – iPhone(Original Design)
2008 – iPhone 3G
2009 – iPhone 3GS
2010 – iPhone 4 (New Metal-Glass design)
2011 – iPhone 4s
2012 – iPhone 5 (New Full metal design)
2013 – iPhone 5s
2014 – iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus (New Full metal design with more curved & thin)
2015 – iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus

So in 2016 there will be a new design from Apple . Samsung is not expected to bring any major design change this year as per leaks.

Display :

Display is also very important factor to be considered in choosing a smartphone. Apple is expected to follow the same screen size philosophy as iPhone 6/6s with 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch models. There are also rumors about a 4-inch model as well.Apple is expected to use TFT or IPS displays to make iPhone slimmer. But there were some reports saying Apple to use OLED displays. It is expected to sport a Full HD retina display.

Now comes the Samsung Galaxy S7. It is expected to come in two sizes. The expected screen size for Smasung’s flagship is 5.1-inch & 5.5inch models. There will be 4 variants of Samsung’s flagship naming The Samsung Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Plus, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 Edge Plus. Samsung will surely use Super AMOLED display that will give us better colors. Samsung S7 will surely sport a QHD display.

Processor :

We can be very sure about Apple using it’s next generation processor Apple A10 chipset. While Apple will use it’s own A10 processor, Samsung will go for two processor choices depending upon the region. The two choices will include Samsung’s own Exynox 8890 octa core SoC and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 octa cor SoC. Apple’s A10 is expected to be 20% faster than A9.

Storage options :

Storage & memory are very important things for a smartphone. Apple will most probably add a 256 GB option to their iPhone because of 4K video support & megapixels being increased & live photos support. They will add this option because they don’t have support to external memory devices like SD cards etc.

Let’s talk about Samsung, last year they decided to ditch Micro SD card in their phones & were criticized worldwide for this decision. Now this year Samsung is expected to bring back the support for Micro SD card.

The basic storage options in both the phones will start at 32GB.

RAM :

It was Apple iPhone 6s when we got an increase in the RAM to 2GB of iPhone. Nowadays RAM plays a very vital role in heavy gaming & casual usage also because app size is increasing & work load on the system is increasing. SO in order to handle that, we need more RAM. Some reports are saying that iPhone 7 might also get RAM increased & some are saying No. So right now we can say that its just 50-50.

If we talk about RAM size in Samsung, it has great victory in this department over Apple. Samsung’s last year’s model the Galaxy S6 had 3GB of RAM which will be increased to 4GB this year.

Camera :

Samsung always had good cameras in their phones if not the best. Samsung housed a 16MP camera in it whit huge sensor also.Samsung is expected to keep the megapixels same with focus on sensors. We all know that Apple focuses on sensor size instead of Megapixels. So in just  12MP they provided us great pictures. But reports say that this year we will see a dual camera structure in the upcoming iPhone. Recently Apple filed a patent in USA for its dual camera setup.

Operating System :

So here wee won’t fight on Android vs iOS because this will fill the whole article & we are here discussing about upcoming mobile devices. It’s very clear that Apple’s iPhone 7 will run iOS 10 while Samsung’s Galaxy S7 will run Android Marshmallow with TouchWiz UI. But it is believed that iOS is faster than Android.

Battery :

So here come the time to discuss the powerhouse of the smartphone. How well a phone performs, depends on the battery inside it. Battery life has always been a tension for iPhone users. Samsung does not have to worry much about battery. They are already good enough but still according to the leaks, the battery is improved. The Galaxy S7 will boast a 3000mAh battery.

Apple is expected to give a boost to the battery of iPhone but they can’t go much because they have to focus on slimness of the phone which is expected to come to 6.1mm from current’s 6.9mm . According to the leaks, iPhone 7 Plus will have 3100mAh battery while iPhone 6s was having 2750mAh battery.
