Blackberry launched it’s first android powered smartphone named as Priv where ‘Priv’ stands for privacy. After this smartphone,CEO John Chen expected to be some growth in the company. Currently the phone is on sale in 9 countries around the globe & soon expected to come to 31 more countries in next 3 months. He was in a talk with Bloomberg for the Q3 earnings recall where he hinted about launching of new handsets powered by android & that will be mid ranger.
In Q3 Blackberry was able to sell 700000handsets which was a little less than what analyst were expecting(90000).But CEO Chen is quite positive of where the company is headed He also said that company’s plans on Android depends upon how the Priv does in upcoming months
“My first goal is to get us into a break-even position with the device business, because you really couldn’t do anything strategically with a business that continues to lose money,We’re in that ballpark now”
He accepts that moving to android was a good change for the company because some reviewers found it welcoming.It also added to cost saving since “we don’t have to do everything ourselves in the operating system world.”
Specifications of Blackberry Priv consists a 5.4” QHD display,20MP OIS camera, 64 bit SD 808 processor, 3GB RAM,32GB of internal with expandable capacity of 2TB.
