Apple iPhone 4S & iPhone 5C have seen a permanent cut in India. With the removal of these two models from India, the company has exited the sub 20000 category in India. The Apple iPhone 4S is available for Rs.12000-15000 through offline as well as online retailers in India. While the Apple iPhone 5C is already very less selling with price of around Rs. 20000 in India. This is worth noting that this was the first time when in 2014, the company relaunched iPhone 4s in India. This was a move from the company to get more & more iPhone users from India.
After this change from Apple, the cheapest iPhone available for purchase in India is iPhone 5S which itself is priced at Rs. 24000 in India but you can get it for as low as 21000 through some online retailers. Apple already reduced the official price of iPhone 5S in India. This will make iPhone 5S the most selling iPhone in India which is still the case. The company already reduced prices of iPhone 6s & 6S Plus in India back in December 2015.
Pulkit Baid, director at Great Eastern said “It’s a step to improve the ASP (average selling price) which was falling since iPhone 4s was till recently one of their highest selling model in India due to its lower price,”
Tarun Pathak, senior analyst at Counterpoint Research said that iPhone 5S will fill the gap of iPhone 4S in India, “The recent price cut of iPhone 5s is in line with Apple’s strategy of positioning this model as affordable in emerging countries and will continue to pull aspirational young audience looking to upgrade their smartphones in the midsegment”
