Android ‘Pie’ is the official name of Android 9. Official changes & new features list

Each year around this time we see a new version of Android Operating System. Last year it was the Android Oreo with version 8.

Now today Google had officially announced the name of next version of Android OS. The most widely used mobile OS now gets a new iteration and that is now named as Android Pie. As with last year’s Android version this year’s also Google doesn’t provide it with version x.yy it just provides X. So for 2018 we have the new Android version 9 aka Android Pie.

New features with Android Pie 9 :

Adaptive Battery :- With adaptive battery features on Android 9 Pie, your phone will learn your usage patterns and adjust the battery consumption accordingly.

Adaptive brightness :- This feature also works in similar manner as the Adaptive battery.

App actions :- App actions automatically predicts what you’re about to do and suggests you accordingly.

Slices :- Initially introduced at the Google I/O conference this year, was later brought as beta builds. What it does is help do more by actually working less. Suppose you’re going to book a cab and are opening the Cab app, with Slices it will automatically bring you the best price for your ride right in the search bar.

New Android system navigation :- After a long time, we finally have a totally new navigation bar in the Android system. The new navigation bar is very intuitive and brings modern approach to the system navigation on Android.

Digital Wellbeing(Available as Beta) :- Digital Wellbeing was also introduced by Google during the I/O 2018 conference.

Dashboard :- This provides you a database of how much and when you have used an app. This also provides your app habits based on usage pattern.

Wind down and Do Not Disturb :- This is also related to the Digital Wellbeing. With this Google will make the whole Android system Black & White so that it doesn’t distract you when you don’t want to be disturbed.
