Cyanogen services shutting down on 31/12, open source work to continue

Cyanogen has announced to discontinue its services as on 31/12/16. The news came in the form of a blog post which was mere 140 chars, informing that all services and Cyanogen-supported nightly builds will be discontinued/shutdown.

However, the CyanogenMod, open-source custom Android based operating system will remain available for the developers or anyone who wants to continue his/her work on the same. This contains the open-source project as well as the source code that independent developers can take advantage of while building apps for the Android.

It was however unknown as to why Cyanogen took the surprise step, considering the fact that have been delivering some great user experiences for consumers through the CyanogenMod builds.

We could only hope well if developers continue to work on the project, after this month, which is very likely indeed.
