‘Significant Portion’ of LTE modem of iPhone to be made by Intel

Apple is expected to release new iPhone called iPhone 5se. The company is also working on the 2016 iPhone. It is also known that the next flagship from Apple will be called iPhone 7

Now we have a new report which claims that Intel will also be a partner in Apple’s next big thing i.e. iPhone 7. An analyst at CLSA Securities has reported that Intel has grabbed orders for a ‘Significant Portion’ of cellular modems for next iPhone. This doesn’t mean Apple will leave Qualcomm. Qualcomm will still be a very reliable partner for Apple.

Srini Pajjuri, analyst at CLSA securities said that , “Asian supply chain checks,” claims that Intel will supply 30-40% of total  modems for iPhone 7 to Apple . With this, it is very clear, this will cause a negative impact on Qualcomm  & the reliability of Qualcomm with Apple. He also said that it will cause 4% of total negative impact on the earnings of Qualcomm & 2% positive on intel.

The new Intel XMM 7360 chip supports LTE category 10 with download speed of upto 540Mbps & upload speed of 100Mbps. While the latest generation of iPhone the iPhone 6s & 6s Plus supports Qualcomm MDM9635 LTE modem. The next modem that company will be bringing will be Qualcomm MDM9645 chipset.
