India rejects Apple’s proposal to import & sell refurbished iPhones

India has rejected Apple’s plan to import & sale refurbished iPhones to India in a big blow to the Apple. Apple has planned to sell cheap refurbished iPhones in order to crack a market, it has been unsuccessful in penetrating so far. Highly price-sensitive Indian customers have been largely cold to over-priced (as compared to Android and Windows Phone offerings) iPhones. Even iPhone SE was met with derision over its pricing post it launch and has weakest demand ever for an iPhone in India.

N Kaul, a spokesman for telecom ministry said:“India does not encourage dumping or recycling of hazardous materials,”

Apple’s proposal was opposed by domestic phone makers who claim selling used iPhones would breach India’s anti-dumping rules.

Refurbished iPhone are used or damaged iPhones that are repaired and redecorated again and then sold at discounted prices.
